Hi,

I am travelling in Japan from 25th April - 8th May this year and wanted to check if it was worth getting a 7 day or 14 day JR pass or just buying individually with the itinerary as below? (The query also involves local travel at each place).

25th April -Tokyo (1 night in Tokyo)

26th April - Travel from Tokyo to Kanazawa (1 night in Kanazawa)

27th April - Travel from Kanazawa to Takayama (day trip out from Takayama to Shirakawa go during this time) (2 nights in Takayama)

29th April Takayama - Osaka (3 nights in Osaka with travel between Osaka/Kyoto/Nara)

2nd May - Osaka - Tokyo (in Tokyo until flight on 8th May) - day trips to Hakone/Nikko/Enoshima/Yokohama/Asakusa

Happy for any help!

Hello there,

I think a 7 day JR Pass would work best going from April 27 - May 2. This way you could make the best savings by sure. You could then buy normal tickets for travel in Tokyo and the day trips.

At the same time, there's enough travel in your itinerary where a 14 day JR Pass could also be a considered. Going for a 14 day JR Pass is something I would suggest if you want the extra flexibility for 7 more days of unlimited train travel.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
