Hello,

I am planning to travel to Japan for my honeymoon this December and was wondering if you could do me a kindness and help me with the different trains that I need to look out for, and if I would save more using the JR Pass or if I were to just pay for individual tickets. Here's my itinerary for the trip

Dates of travel:
12 Dec 2014 to 27 Dec 2014

12 Dec: Arrive at Haneda airport - taking train to Tokyo (hotel)
13 Dec: Travel around Western Tokyo
14 Dec: Travel around Central Tokyo
15 Dec: Travel around Northern Tokyo
16 Dec: Disneyland
17 Dec: Disneysea
18 Dec: From Tokyo - travel to Hakone
19 Dec: Tour around Hakone
20 Dec: Go to Fuji-Q Highlands
21 Dec: Check out of Ryokan in Hakone and head to Kyoto
22 Dec: Travel around Kyoto
23 Dec: Travel around Kyoto
24 Dec: Travel around Kyoto
25 Dec: Check out of Kyoto and travel to Tokyo
26 Dec: Last minute shopping in Tokyo
27 Dec: Check out of hotel and head to Hakone airport for departure.

I hope you can help me with my itinerary. Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Going for normal tickets here is probably the best way to go about this. A JR Pass could be nice if you made the trip Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto - Tokyo with a 7day JR Pass. In your itinerary this takes 8 days and I would not recommend shortening your time in Kyoto. So therefor normal tickets would work best. In Hakone you could purchase a Hakone Free Pass which is a great way to explore the area.

As for trains, you can use the Shinkansen (bullet trains) to travel from Tokyo station - Odawara station, which is the base station for Hakone. To travel to Kyoto, return to Odawara and take the Shinkansen to Kyoto. You can also use the Shinkansen directly from Kyoto back to Tokyo, it's all quite easy :)

Hope this helps!
Daniel
