Hokkaido, Tokyo Trip

I'm planning to visit Japan on end december to early January.
my tentative plan :

20 dec morning: arrive Tokyo , take afternoon flight to Sapporo

21 dec : Sapporo : visit Otaru and Asahikawa
22-24 dec : Tomamu
24-26 dec : Rusutsu
26 dec : Lake Toya
27 dec : Noboribetsu
28 dec: Hakodate
29 dec : by train to Tokyo , stop over at Aomari and Sendai
30 -31 dec : around Tokyo and Odaiba
1 Jan : Yokohama, Kawasaki
2 Jan : Disneyland
3 Jan : back home

Please advise whether my itierary is visible and do I need to use JR Pass or JR Hokkaido pass ? we are travelling in a group of 6 adults and 6 children. Will it be wise to use train from Hokkaido to Tokyo in this season?

Thanks a lot

Hi there,

A one way ticket Sappro - Tokyo alone is ¥ 24,740, this will be a good amount higher with all the stops added in. The price of the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110. So it could certainly make you help savings. The JR Pass also covers the ultra fast Hayabusa train in Japan, which is the fastest Shinkansen class in Japan.

Trains will be busier than normal during the end year festivities but this applies to any kind of transport. It would be good to reserve your trains tickets for the longer trips a 2-3 days in advance because you will be traveling with a bigger company and kids.

Hope this helps!
