Hi,

I would like to know if the JR Pass is suitable and worthy for this kind of itinerary?
I'll be listing all the possible destinations we want to visit for our 7-day tour of Japan.
We'll be arriving second week of October 2015, is the beginning of autumn (if I not mistaken).

Day 1 - Arrival at Kansai Airport by 10PM (We'll probably spend our night at the airport, is that possible?)
Day 2 - Travel from KIX to Tokyo using JR pass
- Tokyo tour: Akihabara, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Metropolitan Building, Shibuya, Tokyo Tower, Roponngi, etc.) Day 3 - Disney Sea
Day 4 - Tokyo tour : Koishikawa korokuen, Fuji Mountain (FujiQ and Doraemon Museum)
Day 5 - Go to Osaka (2 night at Osaka) in early morning.
- Kansai tour - Kobe : Chinatown, kitano Meistar Garden, Himeji Castle Day 6 - Osaka tour : Shinsekai, Dotonbori (is go Nara ok?)
Day 7 - Check out early morning go to Hiroshima
- Hiroshima tour : Miyami island, Mojiko, Hiroshima Memorial Park - after day check in hotel in Fukuoka. Is that ok? Day 8 - Fukuoka - to take ferry to Pusan.

My question are :-
1. Is this itinerary doable and will JR pass be useful?

Kindly suggest other options if you have something in mind that could help us minimize our expenses. We are budget travellers.

Thanks!

Regards,
Khalisah

Hi Khalisah,

It does look like a busy itinerary but you can certainly do it. You've spread travel around very well, which I think is the key to making an itinerary like this. You can stay the night at Kansai Airport if you like, there are also business hotels in the area that have rates as low as 4,000yen per night. There is also an all night Internet lounge at Kansai Airport.

Using a JR Pass is pretty much cover all of your expansive travel. The only part of travel in Japan not reachable by JR is FujiQ. The cheapest way is just to take an express bus there from Tokyo. So you won't have to spend much on transport besides a 7 dau KR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your replying.

I have another question are as belows :-
1. What i read, in tokyo is better use tokyo pass because most of the transport are using subway or also can using JR Pass?
2. Can you suggest to me the best iltinery that cover kansai area and also nara plus the transport.
3. Is from osaka to hiroshima to fukuoka how many hours? Are they bag storage in hiroshima because we check out in osaka but check in fukuoka. Or is better we checkmin first. Which one is better.

Hope your answer will help me more.

Thank you,
Khalisah

Hi Khalisah,

1.) The Metro is not included in the JR Pass. However you can use the JR network in Tokyo, that covers most of the city.

2.) I think the idea you had for Kansai is already good. You can combine Osaka with a halfday trip to Nara, although I would suggest visiting Nara first as most things there close around 5 pm. Also I suggest taking a full day for Kobe, there's much to see and do there and it may be too much to also include Himeji. Himeji can easility be visited as stop over from Kansai - Hiroshima as it is directly on the route.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Khalisah,

1.) I would bring your luggage with you and store at at Hiroshima station when you visit. Then take it with you to Fukuoka when you travel on. This saves you a lot of time.

2.) It's 67 Minutes from Hiroshima - Hakata by Shinkansen.

3.) Certainly! I recommend including the Peace Memorial Museum and park. It leaves a big impression.

Happy to be of help!

Hi Khalisah,

1.) Yes - you should be able to see the beautiful Autumn leaves.

2.) There's a ton to do in Kyoto. My personal recommendations for any visit include, a visit to Kyomizu-dera, Kyoto city center and Nishiki Market and the Kurama area.

Make the best of your trip!

Hi,
Autumn leaves come out typically from mid-November. You'd need to go way up north to see the autumn colours in mid-October. The earliest places to see them in Kyoto would be in the northern mountains, like Mt. Takao and the Sanzenin area. The best places to see them are places along the outskirts of the city by the hills and mountains, such as Arashiyama, Tofukuji, Kiyomizudera, Eikando, Kodaiji, Yoshiminedera, etc.

For Fukuoka, places to see them are Akizuki, Miyama, and so on, but again you'd be too early. That said, you'd be there mostly after the typhoon season is done, and the horrendously sticky and muggy summers are over. The weather in October is the best of the year, with many days of blue skies and comfortable temperatures. See this site as a good guide. You can also see a lot of previews on the best there is to see in Fukuoka here.

For Himeji, don't miss the beautiful Kokoen Garden next to the castle. And for Miyajima be sure to at least see the Itsukushima Shrine and Daishoin Temple, which are both must-see places.

Good luck.
