Hello..
We wish to travel from Ina - City to Takayama and then onto Kyoto in one day. Is there a direct rail link to do this trip? How long would it take?

Hi Geoff,

You can see from this map that Ina and Takayama are separated by several ranges of the Japan Alps. I think the only way you could reasonably do the trip in 1 day is if you travel to Matsumoto from Ina, and then use the non-JR [nohi bus from Matsumoto to Takayama] (2.5 hours). From Takayama the journey to Kyoto is not direct, but you can get the Wideview express down to Nagoya and then transfer to the Hikari Bullet to Kyoto.
