I intend to go Japan for 10-11 days in late October.

I plan to do this. Is it convenient to arrange the itinerary as follows:
TOKYO --> HAKONE --> KYOTO --> OSAKA --> TOKYO

day 1 - tokyo - sightseeing
day 2 - travel from tokyo to hakone (day trip):

Should i take Shinkansen or JR Tokaido line / from Shinjuku → Odawara. Can 7 days Japan Rail Pass use for both shinkansen and JR to odawara? Which is faster?

Hakone: Get Hakone Free Pass to get around.

day 3 - tokyo to kyoto - by shinkansen? stay one/two night at kyoto?
day 5 & 6; followed by kyoto to osaka - by shinkansen? Stay 2 nights?
day 7 - 11: osaka back to tokyo.

Hi there,

Your itinerary looks good, Odawara is directly on the route from Tokyo to Kyoto, so its a good plan to visit it in between.

The Tokaido main line (for local trains) and Tokaido Shinkansen both stop at Odawara. The Shinkansen is 2-3x faster and I recommend using the Shinkansen. Its more confortable too and included in the JR Pass.

Travel from Odawara to Kyoto and Osaka can all be done by Shinkansen as well.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
