Hi,

We are travelling as a group of 4 adults arriving in Tokyo on Monday 27th May at about 7pm. We are staying in Tokyo at the sunroute plaza shinjuku for only 1 night.Does the Narita Express take us directly to this hotel? and how often do they leave from the airport.

We then are planning on heading in the morning down to Hakone for 1 night. So if we travel from Shinjuku to Odawara is that correct? Do we then bus it into Hakone?

I think we then reverse it the following morning to go back to Odawara to then catch the train onto Kyoto for 2 nights, then onto Hiroshima for 2 nights then back to Tokyo for 1 night staying at the Prince Hotel Shinagawa. Then back to Narita.

I am a bit confused with what trains we can and cannot travel on using our JR RAIL PASSES.

We thought we would travel after 9.30am from each destination.

Can we use our rail pass for local bus and ferry travel once we are in each city eg local bus around Hiroshima and Kyoto and the Ferry over to Minyama.

We fly back out on Monday 3rd June. If we activate our rail pass at the airport on arrival at around 7pm does that mean we need to be back at Narita airport by 7pm before we fly out.

Many thanks any help would be great

Hi there!

Traveling to Odawara Yes the most economic way to travel to Hakone is via Odawara with the JR Pass. From there you can either travel on by a local private train or bus.

Trains covered by the JR Pass You travel all JR lines in Japan. We have a map that shows all lines and desalinations covered by the JR Pass. On the Shinkansen (Bullet rail) you can use both the Hikari and Kodama trains. One departs at least every 30 minutes, so you will never have to wait long. Note that you can't use the Nozomi/Mizuhou trains, these are Shinkansen that make the fewest stops on the way.

Local transport The JR Pass is valid on both local JR lines and buses. Please refer to this page for more information about usage and buses, the ferry to Miyajima is also covered.
Other transport methods like the metro are run by other companies and do not accept the JR Pass.

Period of validity The JR Pass is valid for 7, 14 or 21 consecutive days. Something that can cause some confusion is that the first day of use is counted as a full day, regardless of the time that you start using it. Here is a blog post explaining it in detail.

Looks like you are planning a very nice trip all the together, I hope this answers your questions :)
