Hi, I'll be travelling to Hokkaido in Dec 8, below is my itinerary. Would you give me some advices as what type of rail passes to buy. Thank you!

Day 1: Arrived at New Chitose Airport around 8am, take train to Lake Toya 1night
Day 2&3: Lake Toya to Hakodate 2night
Day 4: Leave Hakodate and take train to Niseko Pension Grandpapa 1night
Day 5: Leave Niseko and take train to Sapporo 4night
Day 6: Sapporo to Otaru for day trip
Day 7: Sightseeing at Sapporo
Day 8: Sapporo to Chitose for day trip
Day 9: Take train to New Chitose Airport from Sapporo and fly back home in morning

I'm not sure if buying a Hokkaido Rail Pass is better.

For Day 4, i would like to know where should i stop to reach my hotel: is it kutchan station or hirafu station ?
i am confused.

Thank you!

Hello there,

As a general rule for the JR Hokkaido Pass: it is well worth buying one if you make a return Sapporo - Hakodate, which I see is planned.

I recommend asking your accommodation what the best way to access is, they will know way better than me, since they are local after all.

Hope this helps,
