Hello,
Could you please give me departure time details for the following itinerary?
We wish to travel from Tokyo to Ina city (Nagano) on 7/4/13 at around 8.00am. What time would we leave Tokyo Central and do we need to change trains?
We wish to travel from Ina city to Kyoto on the evening of 8/4/13. What time would we leave.
Are fast trains available on either of these two trips?
Thank you.
Regards.
Geoff Watts.

Hi Geoff Watts,

Welcome back to the forums!
I looked up the routes for you.
Here is the one from Tokyo to Ina city. It is not a very difficult but does involve 1 transfer to a private local railway, that does not accept this JR-Pass and costs 220 Yen.

Here is the Route from Ina to Kyoto. This trip is not very difficult either, like the other route it involves traveling a small part on a private railway.

You will travel on the Shinkansen for the most part, which is the fastest way to travel by train in Japan!

Enjoy Japan!

I think geoff means Ina in Nagano, which comes up as INASHI in hyperdia?

Based on this....

Tokyo > Ina Shi (map)

For this trip, I think the you have 2 options:

  1. Local trains to Shinjuku from Tokyo, then use LTD EXP Azusa from Shinjuku to Okaya, and then change to local trains to Ina
  2. Bullet train to Nagano and then local trains down to Inashi

(Personally, I'd go for the shinjuku option). Both options require changes but you'll be able to leave Tokyo at 8:42am and arrive around 1pm.

Ina Shi > Kyoto (map)

For this you'll need to travel to Nagoya first on LTD EXP trains to Nagoya, and then board the shinkansen bullet down to Kyoto. If you leave Ina city around 3pm, you should get into Kyoto around 8pm.

Fast bullet trains are available for the second trip, however both trips make use of LTD Express trains, which are faster than normal trains and have similar comfort levels to domestic airliners.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your assistance... I have heard that there may be a good option out of Shinjuku Station Tokyo via Okaya to Inashi Station. Could you advise on this leaving around 8.00 am 7th April?
Thank you.
