Hi there,

I had originally planned for a trip from Osaka and flying out from Tokyo home, but accommodations and ticket didn't work out so I have to Re-plan. I am hoping you can offer me some advice on how to maximize my time and also which JR pass to use. I am traveling with someone older (60) so we won't be going too fast paced.

Day 1 Tokyo- land in the evening, 1900 ~ explore Tokyo night ( Which area is the best to stay in ? )
Day 2 Tokyo - Full day explore
Day 3 Tokyo - Full day explore
Day 4 Tokyo; buy Hakone pass and visit for one day trip, back to Tokyo at night
Day 5 Tokyo to Yokohama, stay in Yokohama at night
Day 6 Take train from Yokohama to Nagoya; Stay in Nagoya
Day 7 Check out from Nagoya; (store luggage at a train station? - is it available?) Take train and visit Tsumago and Magome Post Town
** please leave me advice if I should stay a night at Magome; I'd like to walk the trail but I am not sure if its' a good advice that I am traveling with someone older to do this. Take train to Kyoto
Day 8 Kyoto full day
Day 9 Kyoto to Osaka ; stay in Osaka
Day 10 Osaka full day
Day 11 Osaka- Nara day trip- Osaka
Day 12 Osaka- Kobe day trip- Osaka
Day 13- Osaka train back to Tokyo
Day 14- Tokyo Departure

I am not sure if I should buy JR pass for 7 days or 14 days.

Hello there,

I checked your itinerary for the best options and must conclude that it would be better to buy normal tickets for this trip. A 7 day JR Pass pass would be good if used for travel between Tokyo [...] Osaka and back. You have the luxury of time your side and this falls not within a 7 day period. The 14 day JR Pass costs more than the price of single tickets, so it does not make sense it this point to buy one.

First day of arrival:
Shinjuku makes for a nice visit in the evening, there's a lot of people visiting, even after dark.

Luggage:
As for luggage storage, every station in Japan is equipped with coin-lockers. It's easy to store your luggage

Staying in Magome,
It depends on how much time you need to walk the train, generally I think that you'll have enough time to travel on but this may also depend on your travel company.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
