I will be visiting Japan on business plus leisure trip from 4-14 oct .
I intend to visit Tokyo, Osaka n kyoto. My business work day will be on 8 oct morning 10 am to 10 oct evening.
I have not book any air ticket or jr pass. Pls advise which pass is best for me. I can fky to Osaka n fly back from tokyo
I know if the 7 day pass. But that will not be able to cover my whole trip and 14 days pass is too much.

My initial plan is as oer below.
Day 1 - Arrive Osaka at 9am. Visit universal studio.

Day 2 & 3 - Kyoto.

Day 4 - Osaka day shopping n castle, night kobe dinner.

Day 5 - Morning train to Fukuoka for business.

Day 6 & 7 - Work till evening & overnight sleeping train to Tokyo.

Day 8 - Arrived Tokyo early morning, should I do disney land?

Day 9 - 11 - At Tokyo until fly off to home.

Below are some of my doubt which will help me plan better.

1) 7 day pass validity start date go by day or 24 hrs.
2) additional fees for sleeper train.
3) schedule for sleeeper train thru n fro tokyo n fukuoka.
4) wat are the train available to ride for 7 days pass. Local train n mrt is valid or not.
5) shikansen ticket pass how much n how many type of pass. Is it valid for sleeper train. If it includes sleeper train n if not need to pay extra n how much.

Thank you very much

Hi Orca,

I think a 7 day JR Pass would offer some good value for your trip, you could use it for all your long distance travel to Fukuoka and on to Tokyo.

1.) The JR Pass is valid for 7 consecutive day, the first day is counted as a full day no matter what time you start using it. So careful when planning for this.

2.) I would suggest reading our article about night trains to get an idea of what is covered how much extra fees may are for special compartments.

3.) There is no night train that travels all the way from Fukuoka - Tokyo. The best option would be to travel to Osakayama and take the Sunrise express to Tokyo from there. A basic seat on this train is covered by the JR Pass but needs to be booked well in advance as the train is a very popular ride.

4.) Local JR Trains throughout Japan are covered by the JR Pass but please note that other transport methods like the Tokyo Metro are run by other companies who do not accept the JR Pass. Ofcourse the bullet trains and other limited express trains are covered as well!

5.) I hope that I get this question right as it was a little vague, the JR Pass would cover both the Shinkansen and a basic seat on some night trains.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Thanks for the reply Daniel San,
Would like to know if I use the last day of the 7 day pass to entrance the train station at Hakata and arrived Tokyo the next morning. Will there be extra charges? If yes how much?
Does the 7 days pass cover the fees for the full journey from Hakata to Tokyo including the fees for Sunrise Seto? If it is not cover then how much extra we need to pay?

Hi Orca,

The JR Pass will allow you to finish your current train ride if you board the train before midnight. So you technically could take the Sunrise express without having to pay any extra charges.

The JR Pass does cover the full route from Hakata - Tokyo, either completely by bullet rail or with the night train from Okayama.
