7 or 14 day pass?

I've done research and want to make sure I am on the right path.
Day 1-land at Narita and get on a train for Hakone
Day 2- Hakone to Osaka
Day 3-5 we will stay in Sanda with a former exchange student. She has a car or we will ride local trains to visit Kobe and Osaka.
Day 6-8 Kyoto and Nara
Day 9- Hiroshima
Day 9-11 Takayama, Shirakawago, Kanazawa
Day 12-14 Tokyo and fly out in the evening

I think I can do this with a mixture of a 7 day pass, a suica card for around Tokyo or some other type of pass? I am pretty confused on the logistics of Narita to Hakone as it involves train changes and buses to get to the lodgings. For peace of mind I thought about just buying a 14 day pass but if it's a lot cheaper to also use non JR lines to accomplish our travel I am willing to figure all of it out before we come. Your guidance is appreciated! Rachel

Hi there,

You'll be doing a lot of travel and a 14 day JR Pass would definitely help you make savings compared to purchasing normal tickets. As your route is now, there are no private railway companies but you still may have to use them for local travel at times, such as in Hakone.

Also the bus to Shirakawa-go is not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
