7 or 14 day JR Pass?

Hi,

I'm going to Japan for 2 weeks at the end of November and am trying to weigh up whether it would be better to go with a 7 or 14 day JR pass. Itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Arrive Tokyo Narita Airport. Take the Narita Express to Shinjuku
Day 2: Tokyo
Day 3: Tokyo
Day 4: Tokyo - Takayama
Day 5: Takayama
Day 6: Takayama - Osaka
Day 7: Osaka
Day 8: Osaka - Hiroshima
Day 9: Hiroshima/Miyajima
Day 10: Hiroshima - Kyoto
Day 11: Day trip from Kyoto to Nara
Day 12: Kyoto
Day 13: Kyoto
Day 14: Kyoto - Kansai Airport

Would I be better off using a 7 day pass for days 4 to 10 and buying separate tickets for journeys outside the validity or would a 14 day pass be more worthwhile?

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks,
Sarah.

Hello Sarah,

I would use a 7 day JR Pass here from day 4 to day 11, this will give you the best possible savings and you can then buy local tickets for travel around Tokyo and Kyoto.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
