Hi, I´ve already buy a 7 days pass. I would like to check my itinerary and the steps to take the trains. I will be in Japan from December 14th to 21 th. My itinerary is:

  • Tokyo/Osaka 15th
  • Osaka/Hiroshima 17th -Hiroshima/Miyajima 18 th -Miyajima/Hiroshima/Kyoto 19th
  • Kyoto/Yokohama 20th -Yokohama/Tokio 21th

What do you think about it? Is necessary to reserve the trains before travel? Do you recomend another places?

Thanks!!

Hi there,

This looks great, you get both the best out of your trip and the JR Pass by visiting both Hiroshima and Kyoto and then there's even Yokohama. I do recommend making seat reservations in advance but this can be done 15min or so before boarding the train.

If you have the time, consider adding in a stop over at Nara as well.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Hello,
The plan looks pretty good. Although if you are already seeing Tokyo you can mainly skip Osaka in the daytime since it's pretty much a clone. But visiting Kobe would be good, and after a day of seeing Kyoto you can still enjoy Osaka in the evening, such as at Dotonbori, and the gorgeous night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg.

For Miyajima, please note that there are 2 ferry companies there - make sure you go to the JR one if you want to use your pass. Miyajima is mostly famous for the Itsukushima Shrine with the giant "floating" torii, however the Daishoin Temple is also a must-see place. There are several other pagodas and temples, and climbing Mt. Misen offers a fantastic view over the island and whole area. If you still want more to see, then a bit past Miyajima is Iwakuni with its iconic historical bridge and mountaintop castle. And Onomichi is famous for its temple tour and wildly ornate Kosanji Temple. Nara is also an excellent recommendation - the Todaiji Great Buddha is a stunning place you will never forget. Himeji is also within reach, with Japan's finest castle.

Best of luck.

Many thanks! I don't understand about making seat reservations. Can I do it a days before the service? For example, could I reserve Tokyo-Osaka the 14th and travel the next day? Thanks!!
