Hello,

My wife and I would like to inquire if it's worth buying the 7-day or 14-day JR pass. Our itinerary is as follow:

Sep-03 Tokyo (arrive Haneda)
Sep-04 Tokyo
Sep-05 Tokyo
Sep-06 Tokyo
Sep-07 Tokyo
Sep-08 Matsumoto
Sep-09 Kanazawa
Sep-10 Kyoto
Sep-11 Kyoto
Sep-12 Kyoto
Sep-13 Kyoto
Sep-14 Kyoto
Sep-15 Hakune
Sep-16 Tokyo
Sep-17 Tokyo
Sep-18 Tokyo (depart Haneda)

Much appreciated!

Hi there,

I tried to match a JR Pass to your itinerary but its not that easy for this one. A 7 day JR Pass would have been great if you made the trip from Tokyo - Matsumoto - Kanazawa - Kyoto - Tokyo within 7 days. At the same time its not enough for a 14 day JR Pass to pay off. You just fall right between a 7 day and 14 day JR Pass. That said, a 14 day JR Pass could quickly became a great option with a little more travel, for instance think of a day trip to Hiroshima from Kyoto, or a visit to Nikko from Tokyo.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
