Hi,

I'm travelling to Japan in October and I'd like to do the following trip but I'm not sure the JR pass is my best option or value for money.

Fly into Haneda - monorail into Tokyo (can not use JR Pass)

A couple of days in Tokyo

On to Mt Fuji particularly the Five Lakes area, possibly Kawaguchi-ko, for one day/ one night. Open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Then on to Kyoto for a couple of days

Then Kyoto to Kansai Airport.

I'd like to go Tokyo, Mt Fuji, Kyoto without having to go back to Tokyo from Mt Fuji to get to Kyoto if possible

If the Mount Fuji element is not possible on JR pass then I think for Tokyo to Kyoto and Kyoto to Kansai the JR pass is not worth it.

Thanks

Hi there,

I would recommend buying normal tickets for this one. The JR Pass would make a nice option if you make a return Tokyo - Kyoto, however it's better to buy normal tickets - even with the visit to Fuji added in.

There's not much difference in returning to Tokyo before going to Kyoto, than going to Kyoto directly from Fuji. Therefor I would recommend making a day trip from Tokyo to Fuji and travel on to Kyoto from Tokyo. This would make for a much more relaxed itinerary.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Great thanks for the information.

One last question is it possible to buy normal tickets in advance?
