Hi,

We will be travelling to Japan from March 28 - April 5. Our itinerary is as follows:

March 28 - arrive in Tokyo (Narita Airport)
April 2 - Tokyo to Kyoto
April 3 - Kyoto to Osaka
April 5 - flying from Osaka Itami Airport to Tokyo Haneda Airport, travel from Haneda Airport to Narita Airport

Which would be the cheapest option: buy a 7 day pass, 14 day pass, or pay as we go? If we buy the 7 day pass, when should we activate it?

Thanks so much!

Hello there,

For this itinerary I'd advise buying tickets as you go!

The 7 day JR Pass would have been a great option if you used the JR to travel both ways between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello,

I am also going around the same time, 3/25-4/4. My itinerary is the following:

3/25 - 3/28 - Tokyo
3/28 - 4/1 - Osaka/Kyoto
4/1 - 4/3 - Utsunomiya

Do you think I should do the 7 day pass and then pay as I go?

Thank you.
Akiko

Hello Akiko,

For this itinerary it is better to buy a 7 day JR Pass.

Tokyo - Osaka ¥ 13,940
Osaka - Kyoto ¥ 560
Kyoto - Utsunomiya ¥ 17,590

For a total of ¥ 32,090, the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110 and will give you 7 days of unlimited travel for less money :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
