Hello all,
I will be going to Japan in Feb 21-Feb28, 2017.
I am planning to buy a 7-day JR Pass
My plan and itinerary would be
Feb 21(Tue) - Arrive in Narita Airport 11:20AM (Activate my JR Pass) - Travel to Kyoto
Feb 22(Wed) - Explore Kyoto
Feb 23(Thu) - Travel Osaka - Explore - Stay 1 night
Feb 24(Fri) - Travel to Hakone - Explore - Stay 1 night
Feb 25(Sat) - Early morning travel to Tokyo - Tokyo Disneyland whole day
Feb 26(Sun) - Explore Tokyo
Feb 27(Mon) - Explore Tokyo
Feb 28(Tue) - Travel to Narita - Flight at 12:05PM

I have a concern, since my JR Pass would be expired by Feb 28, how should I get to Narita Airport the cheapest way? I have red about a bus that only costs 900JPY. And is the JR Pass worth it? Am I maximizing its uses?

Thank you so much for your reply.
I would also like to have a feedback about my itinerary, any suggestions would be accepted.

Hi there,

A 7 day JR Pass is well worth it. The cost of a return trip Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen is the about same price as a 7 day JR Pass. Adding a one way Narita Airport - Tokyo will already allow you to make savings.

There is indeed a 900/1000yen bus from Tokyo station to Narita Airport. This is the cheapest way to travel back. Alternatively, you can use local trains. These cost around 1,200yen.

The JR Pass will be great for your itinerary and you will make great savings too. Do note that travel within the Hakone region is not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thank you so much for your reply,
I have another question.
You mean I can use my JR Pass within Kyoto and Osaka also?
What should I use within Hakone?
Also, I have changed my vacation date from Feb 18-Feb25:
I want to ask what is the better route:
Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka - Hakone - Tokyo
Or
Tokyo - Hakone - Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo:

Feb 18 - Narita-Tokyo
Feb 19 - Tokyo
Feb 20 - Kyoto/Osaka or Hakone
Feb 21 - Kyoto/Osaka
Feb 22 - Kyoto/Osaka
Feb 23 - Hakone or Kyoto/Osaka
Feb 24 - Tokyo
Feb 25 - Tokyo-Narita

I am trying my luck to get a better view of Mt. Fuji in Hakone and also try the onsen.
I also wanna ask where is the better place to spend for 2 days? Kyoto or Osaka?
I am only a solo traveller and also on a budget.
I really appreciate your help, thank you.

Hi again,

You can use local JR lines in Tokyo, Osaka and to a limited extend around Kyoto. Tokyo and Osaka have a great JR Network and you can see most of both cities with the JR. Around Kyoto, there are JR lines to the south and west of the city but other parts require different transport.

Within Hakone you could look at a Hakone Free Pass. Hakone is my favorite place around Fuji, as it offers much more to do than say Kawaguchiko or Kofu. It also has its own Shinkansen station for easy access.

The route does not make a difference, it's what order you prefer. Personally, I would visit Hakone near the end but there is no real reason for that. Maybe because you can relax a little after the busy city life.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
