Hotels reserved costs around USD 3350 for two of us. It is quite expensive due to staying 2 nights Disney's character room and 2 nights at luxurious ryokans. Should i buy JR Pass? How much will i need for food? Any ways to save up for transportation?

I like to visit places such as Kiso. Traditional Japan areas. But not too much of Shrines and Temples. Wanna take my girl to do lots of shopping too. Not to shop Pradas or Guchis, wanna shop japanese items, boutique shops that can only b found in japan. Any add ons to my itenaries are welcomed. I don't wanna pack too much itenaries till we get too tired everyday so i might lose some also. We are also very interested in the Muscle park such as Sasuke park. Any similar places also pls do recommend. We are from Malaysia. Also, quite interested in technologically advanced places, malls, shops, etc...

Any help appreciated.

Hi there,

Let me start with saying that this is an amazing itinerary already and very well planned. I checked the route and it looks good. In terms of a JR Pass, I tried to match a JR Pass in different ways to your itinerary but I must conclude that it would be better to buy normal tickets as you travel. The main reason is because you travel so leisurely from Kobe to Kyoto that a pass would expire before making good use of it.

In Hakone you could purchase a Hakone Free Pass that will allow you to travel the area and save on local fares.

For Tokyo, here is a full list of discount passes that can also be useful.

The budget for food is basically how much you want to spend. Personally I've managed with less than a 1,000yen per day but I would recommend about 3,000yen per day per person if you are in Japan for tourism. It can become a lot more if you want to eat at more higher end places and add in drinks.

I think that your itinerary is already very diverse and adding much more may be hard. If you have the time around Fuji, consider a visit to the Premium Outlet Shopping centre. Also adding in an Onsen might be nice. There are different local onsen around Nikko, so that may be a good place to plan it in.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel. Thanks for ur reply. Is there any individual passes for Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo separately that you would recommend getting based on my itenaries?

Yes, will be heading to Gotemba Premium Outlets. :)

Any other advice? :)

Thanks.

Hi again!

It would very much depend on your day itinerary if a pass local pass in useful. As a general rule in Tokyo, if you use the metro more than 5 times a day, then it is worth to buy a day ticket.

In Kyoto there's a 500yen bus pass that allows for unlimited rides on a single day. A single ride always costs 230yen, so 3 rides or more will give you savings.

In Osaka the best value ticket is the Osaka Amazing pass but you have to include some of the sight seeing places it covers in order to get your monies worth.

Also worth planning in advance is the route Nagoya - Fuji. This requires a couple of transfers and such. You'll most likely want to take the Shinkansen to Mishima station and take a bus from there, or see if you can find a direct express bus from Nagoya.

Is there any specific point you would like feedback on?

Hope this helps,
Daniel
