Hi there, this will be our third trip to Japa in September/October, we are so excited to be returning! We begin in Osaka- 2 nights, then head to Tokyo for 4 nights with a day trip to Nikko included. We then head to for 2 nights in a Ryokan and possibly an overnight stay in Shirakawa Go? Though not sure how to book that. We then move to Kanazawa for 2 nights. We need another stop after this for 3 nights- and am wondering what you suggest from there? Our last stop is Kyoto for 3 nights. We would love to see Mt Fuji- can you help with our itinerary please?
Kind regards Nick and Rose

Hi Nick and Rose,

I just posted a replay to your other topic asking for more details, however this is already a lot more that I can work with.

You've already made a great start with your planning, both Nikko and Shirakawago are two of my favorite places to visit in Japan. After Kanazawa I would recommend a visit to Hiroshima and Miyajima or if you feel a little more adventures maybe a visit to Shikoku where you can visit places such as Naoshima, Takayamatsu or enjoy an onsen at Matsuyama.

I would suggest a 14 day JR Pass for your travel as it covers all of the above travel (excluding the last part with the bus to Shirakawago) and you would be able to make good savings. It also offers great flexibility if you decide to change your plan on the go.

As for a visit to Fuji, I would recommend visiting Fuji as a day trip from Tokyo. Popular places to view Fuji from are Hakone or the Fuji Five Lakes, of which the first is lake Kawaguchiko. Both areas are very beautiful and make for a great daytrip.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Thank you so much Daniel, that is very helpful!
We have been to Hiroshima and Miyajima Island before, so think that Naoshima might be a good idea! What is the best way to get there ftom Kawazawa? Is it best to stay on the island?
Also do we go from Tokyo to Nagoya to get to Tal
Takayama?
Thank you so much,
Best wishes Roseanne Lette

Hi Roseanne Lette,

Yes staying a night at Naoshima is great. The best way to get there would be to take the train from Kanazawa - Uno and then the ferry from there. All the train travel is covered by the JR Pass.

From Tokyo take the Shinkansen to Takayama, there transfer to the Hide Wide View express and travel to Takayama. It's a very beautiful route and worth making in itself.

Wow!
Thanks Daniel, this has really helped with our itinerary. If we travel to Naoshima, we will have 2 nights to spend there before going to Kyoto.
It looks like we have a plan - Osaka 2 nights, Tokyo 4 nights, Takayama 2 nights, Shirakawa Go 1 night, Kawazawa 2 nights, Naoshima Island 2 nights, Kyoto 4 nights, airport hotel Osaka on our last night (as we have an early flight out.) How does this all sound? Is it too much?
Do you still recommend the 14 day JR Pass? If so, do we begin the trip with it- or activate it when we go to Tokyo
from Osaka?
Kind regards Roseanne Lette

Hi Roseanne Lette,

Looks like a great plan! Its well balanced. The 14 day JR Pass definitely is the way to go. It covers all your train travel and you would make good savings at the same time.

I would indeed activate the JR Pass once you are in Osaka, this way you can cover all of your long distance travel with the Pass and make the most of it.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
