Hi everyone,

I have 2 questions and would appreciate any help :)!

  1. does it make financial sense to purchase a 14-day JR Pass for the following trip trip:

  2. Narita to Hiroshima (3 nights in Hiroshima)

  3. Hiroshima to Kyoto (3 nights in Kyoto)
  4. Kyoto to Osaka (2 nights in Osaka)
  5. Osaka to the Five Lakes region (I know it's a bit imprecise...; 2 nights in the Five Lakes area)
  6. Five Lakes to Tokyo (4 nights in Tokyo)

  7. Is it easier to get to the Five Lakes area from Tokyo than from Osaka (I'm thinking about reversing the above itinerary)?

Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

Visiting Hiroshima alone will almost pay for a 14 day JR Pass itself and you can make good savings with all the additional travel added in.

The Fuji Five lakes area is indeed much easier to visit and I would recommend doing so from Tokyo (instead of Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima). For access details see this page.

I would also recommend making a visit to Nikko from Tokyo. I've always found this to be one of the most impressive sights in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
