Hi everyone

Planning our first trip to Japan in October and looking for an suggested itinerary Tokyo to Osaka over 14 days.

Is it possible on a 7 day JR pass? Or will we need the 14 day?

First thoughts include some countryside, a stay in a Ryokan, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nara and some time in Osaka, but open to suggestions.

Cheers

Alison (from Australia)

Hello Alison,

We have a suggested 14 day Itinerary that includes all the places you wish to visit and a bit more! I think using Tokyo - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka - (Tokyo?). Makes for a great base itinerary and you can add things on the side wherever you like.

A 7 day JR Pass and 14 day JR Pass would both work well. With the 7 day JR Pass you would have to cover Tokyo - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka within 7 days though and the 14 day JR Pass would really come into it's own if you return to Tokyo after Osaka, or will you fly out from Osaka?

An other suggestion I have would be a visit to Kinosaki Onsen about 2 hours north of Kyoto by train. This onsen town is amazing to experience Japanese onsen culture, especially if you combine it with a stay at one of the local Ryokans.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
