Hi! I´m travelling to Japan in a month and I´m ging to spend 14 full days there. Roughly, I´d lke to see:

  • Tokyo
  • Nikko -Hakone-Fuji
  • Japanese Alps: Takayama, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa.
  • Kyoto
  • Nara
  • Koya-san
  • Kumano-kodo
  • Miyajima

Beside this, I´m opened to any recommendation since I´m, still looking at the route. Would it be enough with 14 days? Would I have enouhg time to head south, for example to Kagoshima? What would you recommend? Are 7 days enough to explore Tokyo and around plus the Alps and another 7 bdays to explore Kyoto and beyond? As I see, travelling around the Alps takes a lot of time. Is there any kind of tour or package that takes you around the Alps?

Finally, I don´t know if to get the 7 or 14 day pass since it might be cheaper to get a 7 days pass and then travelling by bus to some areas. I don´t mind travelling on overnight buses to save time.

Thanks a million!

Hi there,

That's already quite a bucket list to cover in 14 days. Going all the way south to Kagoshima is a little too much if you ask me :) If you wish to add more, I would look at places that are already on your route, think of Himeji, Kurashiki, Kobe, Shizuoka, Hakone or Nagoya.

The JR Pass will cover all of your travel around the Alps, except for the bus to and from Shirakawa-go. I don't think any other kind of package would be helpful here.

Enjoy your trip!
Daniel
