14 day or 7 day rail pass?

We are travelling to Japan on the 14th March and are leaving on the 28th March (14 days). Originally we intended to purchase the 14 day pass however, now we are looking at the 7 day pass as the first 7 days of our trip will be spent in Tokyo alone exploring.

Would it be worth just getting the 7 day pass for after the first week in Tokyo for when we are travelling to Kyoto and Osaka etc.

Many thanks in advance for any help!!

Hello there,

The JR Pass is best suited for travel across Japan, it makes perfect sense to use normal tickets while traveling locally in Tokyo.

You could look at a Suica card to make life more easy.

Hope this helps,
