11 days trip to Japan

Both itineraries look good to me. However in option one I would add a 2nd place to visit around Kamikochi, as I am not sure if it has enough to offer to keep you busy for 3 days. Kamikochi is pretty easy to reach, you can use a direct train from Shinjuku, Tokyo to Matsumoto and a bus from there to Kamikochi. You could for instance visit Matsumoto for a day or Takayama.

I would advise buying normal tickets for both trips are there's not that much money involved of ticket prices. The JR Pass does cover most travel in both trips, although some travel, such as the last part to Fuji 5 lakes is not included.

I thought the 7 days JR pass could be more economical on both itineraries days 3 to 9, but if not, then we'll just go with the regular tickets!

One other question, I will arrive Day 1 in Ibaraki airport. The easiest way to reach the City center of Tokyo seems by bus. However, I've seen that the direct bus I would need to take in the afternoon is already fully booked. So, in order to avoid waiting for the next bus 4 hours later, I am thinking maybe to go by train. Could you advise what is the easiest way to go from Ibaraki airport to Tokyo Station ?

Hi Sarah,

Ibaraki Airport is best traveled to and from by bus. If this does not work out, you can travel by rail. First travel to Ogawa station by local bus or taxi, from there you can use train travel into Tokyo.
