11-day visit from Tokyo to Hakone to Takayama and back to Tokyo

Hi,

We plan to visit Japan from 8 to 18 October 2017. Our planned itinerary is as follows:

8 - 11 - Tokyo
11 - 13 - Hakone
13 - 16 - Takayama
16 - 18 - Tokyo

We would like to use the 7- day JR pass. Could you recommend the best way to travel using the itinerary above. We were wondering if we should follow the itinerary and go directly from Hakone to Takayama (day 13) or go back to Tokyo and then travel from Tokyo to Takayama. May we know which is a better choice?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Davidpan,

You could travel directly from Hakone to Takayama. The Shinkansen station for Hakone is called Odawara station, from there you can use the Shinkansen to Nagoya station and from Nagoya you can use the Hida Wide View Express to Takayama.

You can use the same way back to Tokyo or travel north to Toyama and use the Shinkansen from there to Tokyo. The JR Pass fully covers the route.
