10 Days Trip, to get 7 days or 14 days JR pass

Hi Daniel,

I will be travelling to Japan on 6-15 Sep and below is my tentative itinerary:

6 Sep Arrive Kansai Airport and proceed to Hiroshima Station (using JR Pass)

           Hiroshima/Miyajima tour - Itsukushima Shrine/Kintaikyo Bridge/Peace Memorial Park
       Stay a night in Hiroshima

7 Sep Continue Itsukushima Shrine/Kintaikyo Bridge/Peace Memorial Park if can't complete on day 1.

            depart Hiroshima to Osaka (Stay in Kansai Airport Hotel)

8 Sep Osaka/Kyoto/Nara Sightseeing

9 Sep Osaka - Reiko outlet mall shopping

10 Sep Osaka-Nagoya (meeting a friend for lunch)

             Leave Nagoya to either Mt. Fuji/Hakone/Gotemba Premier Outlet

         I plan to cover Mt. Fuji, Gotemba Premier Outlet and Hakone so what is your suggestion.
             Should I go to Mt, Fuji or Hakone first and should I stay a night in Hakone or Mt. Fuji?

             Either stay a night in Mt. Fuji or Hakone

11 Sep Mt. Fuji/Hakone/Gotemba Premier Outlet

            Next stop is Tokyo Disneyland so will stay a night in Shinjuku area

12 Sep Tokyo Disneyland/Disneysea
13 Sep Tokyo Disneyland/Disneysea
14 Sep Sanrio Puroland
15 Sep Shinjuku to Narita (flight at 8:50 pm)

From the above, do you think I should purchase a 7 days or 14 days JR pass?
For 8 & 9 Sep, I can't change my itinerary because I am going with my friend and she is on business trip so have
to stay in Kansai Airport hotel for 3 nights from 7 Sep.

Hi Pepper,

I checked your itinerary for the best JR Pass option and would recommend going for the 7 day JR Pass. This way all expensive travel is covered and you make the best savings possible. Local travel within Tokyo is not very expensive and you'll be fine buying normal tickets. You can consider a Suica card for your travel in Tokyo to make your life more convenient.

It all looks great for the rest! There's a lot of awesomeness in this itinerary.
What I do want to tell you is that the Premium outlets in Gotemba are the same as in Rinku town, they are even run by the same company. So you could drop one and visit something else of interest, or go Shopping in Shibuya!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for going through my itinerary and provided me some option and suggestions.

From your response, am I right to say I should activate my JR Pass on the first day, i.e. 6 Sep and is only
good till 11 Sep and from 12 Sep, I should start using my Suica card?

Between Gotemba & Rinku town premium outlets, which is a better one to visit?

Also from Nagoya, should I stop at Mt Fuji first or Hakone?

Hi Pepper,

Your JR Pass would be valid until the 12th if you start using it on the 6th and travel to Disneyland is included, so that's a nice bonus. I would recommend that you start using the Suica card as of Sep 12.

Both Rinku town and Gotemba are great visits. Rinku town has a nice Ferriswheel and view over Kansai bay, while Gotemba has an amazing look to Fuji. Both are good really :)

It would depend where around Fuji you wish to visit but most of the time it would make more sense to stop and visit Fuji and then travel on the Hakone.

Hi Daniel,

This may be the final itinerary after much discussion with my friend.
Day 1 Kansai-Hiroshima
Day 2 Hiroshima-Miyajima tour-Kansai Airport Hotel
Day 3 Friend on training & I will booked a tour to Kyoto and night explore Osaka
Day 4 Reiko outlet mall shopping in the day and evening explore Osaka
Day 5 Osaka-Nagoya-Tokyo
Day 6 Tokyo Disneyland
Day 7 Tokyo Disneysea
Day 8 Tokyo Shinjuku, Shibuya
Day 9 Tokyo sightseeing
Day 10 home sweet home departing from Narita airport in the evening at 8:50pm.

With the above itinerary, do you think I should still go for the 7 day pass & Suica card
or I should go for a different pass?

Hi Pepper!

That's a good amount of Shopping to be done :)

The 7 day JR Pass looks like a good match for your updated itinerary. It's the only pass that suits the route and will give you good savings over normal ticket prices.

The Suica card will be handy in Tokyo and can also be used for travel to Narita Airport.
