10 days in Japan - 7 day or 14 day JR Pass?

Hi all,

I'll be in Japan for a total of 10 days in April I intend to spend the first 4 days in Tokyo (possibly doing a few day trips in and around Tokyo) then off to Kyoto, Hiroshima and Miyajima before returning back to Tokyo to fly back home.

I was thinking of using the suica card in Tokyo for the first 4 days and buy the 7 day JR pass for Kyoto etc. Or would I be better off buying the 14 day JR Pass?

Cheers,

Pat

A 14 day pass would not pay off. But a 7 day pass would pay off quite handsomely, as long as you travel from Tokyo and return within 7 days. For Tokyo, a suica card is convenient in that you don't have to carry a bunch of change with you, but not for savings. If you will travel here and there in Tokyo, look into a [3 day subway pass] (http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/travel/index.html#anc03 "subway pass").

For getting to from Narita cheaply, look into the [1000 yen bus] (http://accessnarita.jp/en/home/ "1000 yen bus").

Hi there,

Actually a 14 day JR Pass would help you make small savings if you also uise it to travel from Tokyo - Narita using the Narita Express. But I agree, a 7 day JR Pass is where the best savings are to be had. This should also work great since you have 10 days to spend in Japan, you could spend 7 traveling and 3 in Tokyo.

[You could also purchase Keisei + Metro ticket] for your arrival. This is one of the fastest ways to travel into Tokyo and the added Metro Tickets will give good value.

Cheers 'n Beers!
Daniel
