Dear All ,

I'm planning to visit Japan and I have some questions regarding my trip to Japan next year 22 - 29 May 2014 . Here's my itinerary .

22 May 2014 : Arriving at Kansai Internation Airport .
I'm planning to buy 2 day JR Kansai Pass ( for 4000 yen ) . From Kansai Int'l Airport , I am planning to go to Kyoto ( on JR train , but not Haruka express ).
My questions :
- Can I buy the JR Kansai pass at the airport ? - Can I buy my one-way JR ticket from Kyoto to Tokyo ( on 24 May 2014 ) at the Kansai Int'l Airport ? - Am I right that in order to get to Kyoto , I have to switch trains at 2 stations : Tennoji Station and then Osaka Station ??

23 May 2014 : Getting around Kyoto and Nara.
Question :
- Is it possible to travel 2 places in just one day ?

24 May 2014 : Getting on a one-way JR Train to Tokyo , then stay overnight in Tokyo.
Question :
- Can I purchase the ticket right at the station on the same day ? or Should I purchase in advance ?

25 May 2015 : Visiting Lake Kawaguchi ( Mount Fuji ) .
Questions :
- How much is a round trip ticket from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi ? - Is it better to purchase JR Kanto Pass , or buy round ticket for Tokyo - Lake Kawaguchi - Tokyo ?

26 - 28 May 2015 : Getting aroundTokyo

29 May 2015 : Heading back home ( through Haneda Airport )
Question :
- From Tokyo to Haneda Airport , I will have to take Yamanote Line to Hamamatsucho Station , then change to Monorail to Haneda Airport ... Is there any better option ???

Any replies or assistance would be highly appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance.

Regards,

Khai En

Hi Hhai En,

You can buy the JR Kansai pass at the Airport, in addition to any other JR ticket you would like to buy - such as a one way ticket Kyoto - Tokyo.

The JR Kansai Pass is valid on the Haruka Express - so you can use it to travel directly to Kyoto - alternatively you can take the Airport Express train to Osaka station where you can transfer to the JR Kyoto line to Tokyo.

Going on: - Is it possible to travel 2 places in just one day? You could make a quick visit to both Kyoto and Nara but I would not recommend it, unless you have a very specific plan. Especially Kyoto as a lot to offer and I would suggest a minimum stay of 2-3 days. Otherwise take one day to really appreciate Kyoto - this way you can get much more out of your time than making lighting visits all over.

- Can I purchase the ticket right at the station on the same day ? or Should I purchase in advance ? You could go either way, trains rarely sell out and you can buy a ticket up to 5min before departure. If you prefer the extra security of having tickets beforehand - go for that.

- How much is a round trip ticket from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi ? - Is it better to purchase JR Kanto Pass , or buy round ticket for Tokyo - Lake Kawaguchi - Tokyo ?

Lake Kawaguchiko can be reached in different ways, either by rail or bus. There are express buses going directly to Kawaguchiko from both Tokyo and Shinjuku station, which cost around 1,700yen. This is the most economic way by rail it is roughly 2,500 yen although you can make the trip for free or with a good discount if you have a JR Pass.

Lastly, taking the Monorail + Yamanote line to Haneda is how I prefer to travel, as it is covered by the JR Pass. It may sound much but it's actually pretty easy. There are also alternative ways for getting to Haneda Airport here is a good website that explains them all.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
