Hi,

May I please find out which is the best way to commute through the below in terms of both cost savings and convenience? This is my first time traveling to Japan. I have yet to plan my itinary, only accomodations and round trip flight tickets in and out of Narita are booked. Any suggestion on itinary is welcome too. 2 adults in mid 30s.

24 Mar: arrival at narita 5pm
24-27 Mar: stay in Shinjuku 4 nights, explore Tokyo
28-29 Mar: travel to hakone and stay one night there
29 mar-2 Apr: travel to kyoto and spend 5 nights there
3 Apr: travel back to Narita for a flight at 6pm.

Thank you!

Jae Lim

Hi Jae Lim,

As far as you have your itinerary ready, I would use a 7 day JR Pass from the 28th of March to the 3rd of April. This way you can use the bullet train to travel to Hakone, Kyoto and back to Tokyo and travel back to Narita Airport would also be covered.

Travel within the Hakone region is not covered, here you could look at a Hakone Free Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel,

If my flight departs from Narita at 6pm, what time must I start taking the train from Kyoto Station?

Thank you.

Reserve at least 5 hours for the trip from Kyoto to Narita Airport, be at least 2 hours before departure at Narita. Which would mean leaving before 11 am from Kyoto.

Hope this helps!
