Hi! I will travel Japan alone and have the following schedule for our travel:

06Mar Narita Airport - Tokyo (travel around city and countryside for 6 days)
12 Mar Tokyo-Okayama (stay at Okayama for 2 weeks)
26 Mar Okayama - Osaka
31 Mar Osaka - Kansai airport

Is it cheeper to buy normal tickets for me or does the JR pass suit for me?
Best wishes,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Given that you spend two weeks in Okayama and presuming that you don't plan to travel around a lot from there, I think that it would be best to buy normal train tickets as you travel. If you do plan to travel a lot and use Okayama as a base, then a JR Pass would be a great option and help you get to Kansai, Hiroshima and even Shikoku in no time!

Have a great time in Japan!

Hi Sam,

I think that it would be best to stick with normal tickets.

Knowing the prices between these places a JR Pass unfortunately would not pay off.
If you want to save some money consider using local trains between Nagoya - Kyoto or Kyoto - Himeji - Osaka. This could easily save you 50% on the total ticket fare but would add extra travel time.

Best wishes to you too!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks. Do you know which train should I take from Tokyo to Shizuoka and Shizuoka to Nagoya?

Hi Samuel,

Yes that's pretty easy. Just take the Shinkansen, which is basically one line that runs trough Japan. At Tokyo station take the Shinkansen directly to Shizoaka from Shizuoka you can simply get back to the train onward to Nagoya.

Here's a map to give you an idea of the route involved. -Daniel

Hi Sam,

Your itinerary basically is a one way trip Tokyo - Osaka, be it with a stop at Nagoya. A JR Pass unfortunately would not pay off for this journey and thus buying normal tickets is the best way to get around.

Happy travels!
Daniel
