Hello,

I am travelling to Japan in August. I will be staying in Tokyo for about 9 days then I want to travel down to Osaka.

From Osaka I want to visit Nara, Himeji and Mount Koya.

Then back to Tokyo to fly home.

Is it better to get a bullet train fare from Tokyo>Osaka Return + a 5 day Kansai WIDE area pass for the other areas

or

a 2 week japan rail pass to cover it all?

Thanks

Hi there,

I recommend a 7 day JR Pass if you can make the return Tokyo - Kansai within the 7 day period. This would give you the best savings by far and get the best use out of the JR Pass.

Note that travel to Koya is not covered by any JR Pass between Osaka - Koya-san.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for the reply.

So from the 5th to the 15th we will be in Tokyo and get around using subway - pasmo or suica.

Then from 15th-20th we will travel on a 7day JR pass from Tokyo to Osaka (avoiding the NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” trains). From Osaka we will visit Nara and Himeji.

Then any travel to Koya will be separate tickets.

We will use the last day of our 7 day pass to get back to Tokyo from Mount Koya or Osaka area.

2 questions.

1)What is easiest way back to Tokyo from Mount Koya using JRpass?
2)How do you know which bullet trains are NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO”?

Thanks again for your help.
