Osaka - Kyoto - Osaka

Hello,

My wife and the in-laws will arrived in Kansai International on the 04/13. Then they will proceed to Kyoto for 3 nights and return to Osaka for another 3 nights before departing on 04/19.

Which will be the best economical transportation mode between and within Osaka/Kyoto? The JRPass could be out of question as it sounds overkill. Does Osaka/Kyoto has any similar to Suica?

I will be joining them in Kyoto on 04/13 from Narita International arriving from Washington, D.C. Same travel plan except I have to travel back to Narita from Osaka on the 04/19 to catch my evening plane out. JRPass is my choice.

best.

Hi there!

I'd definitely recommend a JR Pass for your travel Narita Airport - Osaka and back. However your wife and the in-laws will be better served by just buying tickets locally in Kansai (area where Osaka and Kyoto are located. Travel within the Kansai area is very cheap, for instance a one way ticket Kyoto - Osaka is just 540 yen. You can of course use an IC card such as Suica or ICOCA for this to make your travel easier. To use a JR Pass for just this would indeed be a bit too much here.

Have a great time in Japan!

daniel,

any estimate on taxi from Kansei airport to Kyoto? seems that my wife/in-laws would missed the last train which is set at 22:16. they arrive at 21:30.

or what would be the best other alternative?

cheers

Hi Again,

Glad to see that you already found an alternative. There are indeed several train connection available even after 22:16, the last leaving at 23:14. I would avoid a cab if possible, this because the taxi fare can be more than 25,000yen.

Alternatively you could consider staying at a hotel near the airport for the first night, this may also be a saver option in case of plane delays and the like.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
