Mt. Fuji from Kyoto?

Hi, everyone! I'm traveling with friends and they want me to make the itinerary. We are going to be in Japan from January 10 - 18. Our main base will be in Kyoto. They want to see Mt. Fuji, and I wonder if it's possible to do so during our planned days? I'm thinking it might be too cold, and they really just want to see the view (day trip).

Where and how can we get there from Kyoto using the JR Pass?

Help is much appreciated :)

Hi there!

It is possible but Fuji really likes to hide itself in the clouds during winter and you may just end up travelling a lot to see clouds. Generally, you will have to travel at least 2 hours from Kyoto to get a good view of Fuji-san.

If you do want to visit Fuji, consider a visit to the Hakone region, Fujinomiya or the area around Gotemba. These are best accessible from Kyoto and most of the way is covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

I'm trying to use Hyperdia to set up some commutes. Is Kyoto there referring to JR Kyoto station?
