We will have the 7 day JR Pass and would like to see Mt. Fuji in the next couple of weeks.
We'll be traveling from Tokyo to Hiroshima and then back via Osaka and Kyoto.

It seems that getting to Lake Kawaguchiko isn't the easiest thing to do, and was wondering if there are other good get off points on the Shinkansen lines to take in a good view?

Happy to get to the Five Lakes if it's not too painful

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Martin,

Visiting Kawaguchiko and the Fuji Five Lakes coming from Osaka and Kyoto unfortunately is not that easy. There's a lot of travel time involved and multiple transfers. I would recommend visiting Hakone instead. There's lots to do, has a great view on Fuji and is directly accesable by the Shinkansen, the station name is Odawara.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Daniel,

I posted a reply the other day but for some reason it didn't go up.

I have looked into Hakone and it seems much easier and we will do that rather than the Lakes.

This way we will have two opportunities to see Fuji, leaving Tokyo, and returning.

Another quick question, if we board the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and along the way the weather is great and we decide to stop at Odawara, can we just get off and then jump back on the Shinkansen when we are ready?

Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,

I agree, going to Hakone will be much easier and as cool, if not better.

The JR Pass also allows you to hop and and off the train whenever you feel like it! You can simply get on the next train if you want. I've done this plenty of times and it is one of the small things that simply makes the JR Pass so great.

Hope this helps too :)

Thanks Daniel, that does help.
I was hoping the JR Pass would work like that.
Looking at stopping at Himeji Station to see Himeji Castle if time permits, also maybe up to Nikko.
:)
