Hi there,

I'm going to Japan in September, and I'll be visiting Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto travelling using the Japan Rail Pass. It's my first time in Japan so I have a few questions.

(1) What is the easiest route to take to get from Tokyo to Osaka? I'm staying in the Hotel Rose Garden in Tokyo (near Shinjuku station) and the Hearton Shinsaibashi hotel in Osaka.

(2) How then should I travel between Osaka and Kyoto?

(3) Finally, what's the easiest way to get from Kyoto to Tokyo?

Sorry to ask so many questions - I'm a little nervous about the travel side of things!

Hi there,

1.) I recommend familiarizing yourself with the Tokaido Shinkansen line. This is the high-speed bullet train line that connects Tokyo to Shin-Osaka. Local trains will get you into Osaka from Shin-Osaka station.

2.) You can either use the Shinkansen to Kyoto from Shin-Osaka, or a rapid service from Osaka station.

3.) You can use the Tokaido Shinkansen again to Tokyo station directly from Kyoto station.

Here is a map for the Tokaido Shinkansen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
