hey
So me and my partners itinerary for Japan is Tokyo for 6 days including 3 at Disney then we plan to travel to gotemba tokaido and gotemba lines then join the shinkansu to Kyoto then on to Osaka where we will fly out.
my question to you is what is our best approach to doing this trip as paying 400aud seems bit excessive for a rail pass when this is the the only journey we are doing and not returning and also we are wondering if we buy a ticket to Osaka do we have to complete that trip in one day or can we split it up?
sorry for the long question I'm just finding hard to navigate individual prices for the trains.
thanks

Hello there,

There's not really a pass that would help you make savings here. Therefore, I would buy normal rail tickets as you travel. It should be simple for your route, go to the station ticket window each time you want to go somewhere and tell the staff where you want to go. They'll find the best route/timings for you.

JR allows you to break up the route in multiple sections if you travel more than 101KM on one day. While I don't know how this exactly works out with fares to Gotemba and Osaka, I do recommend enquiring after it when purchasing the tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
