I am going to travel for about 3 months in japan, I don't have a plan yet but, I plan to stay in tokyo for a long while for about 3 or 4 weeks, and then go to osaka and also kyoto perhaps one week in each or more and then proceed north to hokkaido and perhaps visit other locations on the way.. near the end of the trip fly to Okinawa for one week and then go back to Tokyo.
So, I can't tell if I need a JR pass ticket to travel around inside a city, or perhaps for long distances to reach Hokkaido for example
3 month travel
Hi there,
A JR Pass works best for the longer distances, think of travel to Osaka, Hokkaido and such. It is hard to say what works best without having more details, once thing you could consider is getting a 21 day JR Pass and use that period of time to do your longer trips and enjoy the unlimited rail travel it provides. You could also consider buying multiple passes if you think that you may have periods of quiet between your travels.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
