Hi there,

Looks like a great trip with many of Japans highlights included. Either a 14 day or 21 day JR Pass would work great here.

Option 1.) Use a 14 day JR Pass and local tickets for the first couple of days in Tokyo. You could do this and use local tickets / discount ticket to travel around Tokyo and Nikko. Tickets like a Tokyo Metro Day pass or a pass like to Nikko heritage pass.

2.) Would be to get a 21 day JR Pass and simply use it for all of your trip! The cost between a 14 and 21 day JR Pass is quite small (compared to say the cost of a 7 day JR Pass).

Note that there will be parts where some additional tickets are required, such as local travel in Hakone, travel between Osaka/Nara - Koya-san and the bus to the Monkey park from Matsumoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
