Would a JR Pass save us $$?

Hello, we will be travelling by train as follows:

Kyoto to Hiroshima return same day sometime between Oct 10 and Oct 14
Kyoto to Tokyo one-way Oct. 14

Would we save $$ buying a 7 day JR rail pass for these trips?

Could we use the JR rail pass on the fastest train for the Kyoto-HIroshima trip?

Could we use the JR rail pass for travel within Tokyo before it expires?

We would appreciate your help with these questions. Thanks.

Hi,
Yes, a 7 day pass pays off by going to Hiroshima and back, and then on to Tokyo. But you cannot use the fastest bullet trains (Nozomi or Mizuho). The other bullet trains and express trains are fine though. As long as the Pass is still valid, you can use it on the Yamanote Line in Tokyo itself. You can also use it on popular day trips from Tokyo like Nikko or Kamakura.
Please remember also that the day you activate it for counts as Day One - which starts and ends at midnight. So if you activate it and use at 6 PM, your first "day" is just 6 hours long.

Good luck.
