Traveling Fukuoka->Hiroshima->Kyoto->Nara and BackMy family and I are planing a 6 day long trip to Japan. We will be arriving from Korea on a Sunday via ferry and returning via ferry on Friday. The plan is to go from Fukuoka (Hakata) making a stop in Hiroshima before preceding to Kyoto and Nara. We may also spend some time in Osaka. On a different site I learned that it is possible to buy regional JR passes that cover shorter time spans. My questions are: 1)Which is the best pass regional or the 7 Day? 2) What is the best way to get to and from Kyoto/Nara using the pass? Thanks! |

Hi there, I terms of coverage, the largest JR-West regional pass will cover travel up from Fukuoka as far as Osaka. The trips to Kyoto and Nara will not be within their coverage zone. Which one is best really depends on your plans.
The added costs and itineraries for your kyoto and nara trips will be:
TOTAL: ¥2010 for 3 legs Of course, the main costs for you will be on the trips from and to Hakata. Because of this, if your trip out of Fukuoka looks like it will be over 5 days, I recommend the 7 day pass. If it looks like you could squeeze it into 4 or 5 days, then you should look seriously at the JR-West passes. Hope this helps! |
