Hi there!

Yes, a 7 day rail pass will certainly be cost effective as it is basically the same price as a return trip from Tokyo > Osaka. As you'll be traveling to Kyoto, and also plan on some travel inside Tokyo, any further JR travel you do will effectively be free.

You can order your JR Pass online with us here (we deliver the Japan Rail Pass to Singapore), alternatively you can check here for other Asia based agents.

Hope this helps!

But i am only travelling one way from tokyo to kyoto to osaka.....

Will the 7 day pass still be cost effective?

Hi there!

I see! I had assumed a return journey back to Tokyo. In the case of a single bullet journey from Tokyo to Kyoto, I advise purchasing single tickets as needed. You generally need to do 2 bullet train legs before the rail pass becomes cost effective. For example, the rail pass would be a good choice if you included a day trip to Hiroshima from Osaka in your plans.

Hope this helps!
