Hi there,

Our family (2 adults 2 children) are flying into Haneda and plan to stay in Tokyo for about four-five days including visiting disneyland, legoland etc.

We also want to head to Hakone, (day trip??) and then head to Kyoto for five days including a day trip to Nara.

Ive seen that the JR pass doesn't include many of the subway lines in Tokyo.

Do you think it is worth getting the JR pass?

Thanks so much in advance

Hi there,

The JR Pass is best used when traveling longer distances, such as between Tokyo - Kyoto. I do recommend using a JR Pass if you would use it to travel from Tokyo - Kyoto and then back to Tokyo. However if you go one way, then I suggest buying normal tickets.

Local travel, such as the Metro does not cost much compared to longer distance travel on the Shinkansen. Even so, the JR Pass is valid for the local JR Network in Tokyo, that covers most of the city.

If you plan on using the Metro. Consider buying a discounted day pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
