which pass should I get for an 18 days trip and when should I activate it?
The itinerary should be:
- arrive at Narita Airport and go to Tokyo, staying there for 2 or 3 days
- go from Tokyo to Kyoto, staying there for 2 or 3 days
- Kyoto to Osaka
- Osaka back to Tokyo for the rest of the days
- Tokyo back to Narita airport

Hello there,
I recommend looking at a 7 day JR Pass for your trip. The cost of a 7 day JR pass when purchased online is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto (or Osaka) using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price!
Any any additional travel you cover with the JR Pass is what you save :)
