Which JR Pass to buy 7 or 14 day

Hi,

Me and my husband are travelling to Japan next month for 10 days and we don't know which JR Pass would be best. We are trying to find the most economic way. Can you please advise which JR pass would be suitable and what other economic ways of travel that we can consider.

Our itenerary is:

Day 1: Narita Airport to Tokyo
Day 2: Tokyo
Day 3: Tokyo Disneyland
Day 4: Osaka
Day 5: Kyoto
Day 6: Kyoto
Day 7: Takayama
Day 8: Hakone
Day 9: Tokyo
Day 10: Tokyo - depart from Narita Airport

Thanks

Hi there,

A 7 day JR Pass would help you make great savings compared to purchasing normal tickets if used from day 3-9 or 4-10 if you travel to Osaka on day 4.

That would only leave travel from Narita airport and the days in Tokyo that you do not have a JR Pass. You could use the JR Pass from day 3-9 and then buy a discounted Narita Express return ticket. Combine it with a Suica card and you are all covered.

Hope you find this useful,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel! This is very helpful.

I have one more question please. We will go alot around tokyo during Day 1 and 2 to try to see as much of the city as we can. Would it make more sense to purchase daily tokyo metro passes for these days? Or would a Suica Card still be a better option?

Thanks

Hi there,

A metro day pass can be great too, generally its a good option if you use it 5 times or more on a single day.
