Hi,

I saw an article about a 10day trip to Japan

I tried to follow it as much as possible and came up with this itinerary...If we use the IT below, will we be able to maximize the JR Pass? Which JR Pass should be buy? We would like to minimize cost as much as possible as there will be 6 of us travelling.

Should I still get the Icoca & Haruka and 7 day JR Pass?

If I have to choose between Hiroshima and Kobe which would you recommend?

DATE TIME ITINERARY
Day 1 04-Dec-15 Kansai Airport - Explore Osaka
Day 2 05-Dec-15 Universal Studios - Harry Potter Land
Day 3 06-Dec-15 Nara
Day 4 07-Dec-15 Travel from Kyoto to Tokyo
Day 5 08-Dec-15 Gotemba outlet shops
Day 6 09-Dec-15 Tokyo
Day 7 10-Dec-15 Tokyo-Osaka
Day 8 11-Dec-15 Hiroshima and Miyajima or kobe?
Day 9 12-Dec-15 Kyoto
Day 10 13-Dec-15 Depart from Kansai Airport

Thanks in advance for our help...

Hi there,

That is indeed a nice itinerary and a 7 day JR Pass will work very well with it. You will want to cover travel to Tokyo, Gotemba, Hiroshima and Kyoto with it. So I suggest using the JR Pass either from day 3-9 or 4-10, both will help you make outstanding savings over purchasing normal rail tickets.

You can also purchase a Haruka + ICOCA package up on arrival, although it does not give the best possible value when you go to Osaka (Kyoto is much better). The ICOCO card is very nice to have though.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
