Hi
Here's our itinerary:
03-07/10 - Tokyo
08/10 - Day trip to Nikko
09/10- Day trip to Hakone - Night at Kyoto
10-13/10 - Kyoto with a day trip to Osaka
13/10 back to Tokyo (from Kyoto)
14/10- Tokyo
15/10- Back home from Narita

I'm wondering if I should activate it on the day of the trip to Nikko or to save it so it will last for the trip back to Narita airport? which one saves more money? or maybe I should switch between Nikko and Hakone? We are very flexible except of our stay in Kyoto.

Thank you!

Hello there,

Travel from 8/10 to 13/10 is by far the most pricey (without a JR Pass). My advise would be to use it for this period for sure. You could either activate it on the 7th and make a day trip then, or save it for the 14th and do something crazy then. The most important is to cover 8/10 to 13/10.

When you visit Hakone but sure to use the Shinkansen to Odawara. This station is also directly on the route Tokyo - Kyoto and is a good stop to make your base before travelling on.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
