What rail pass to get? Narita-Tokyo-osaka-kyoto-osaka-Narita

We are arriving in Narita and will spend a few days in Tokyo then traveling to Osaka, Kyoto then back to Narita. Osaka is our base and we will go to Kyoto for a day but we will be coming from Osaka to travel back to Narita.

The duration of the trip is 7 days.

My questions:
1. What rail pass should we get to cover Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Narita?
2. We would like to take the shinkansen. Is this included in the rail pass?

Thank you in advance!

Hello there,

1.) I recommend getting a 7 day JR Pass, this would work great. You can make nice savings compared to buying normal tickets.

2.) The JR Pass includes all Shinkansen lines, some train service, the Nozomi and Mizuho are not included. You can take the Hikari and Sakura Shinkansen instead. These are the same trains but make a couple more stops on the route.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
