What JR Pass Should I Get

Hi My itinerary is as follows:

Haneda airport to Kawaguchigo - 1 day
Kawaguchigo to Nagano - 1 day
Nagano - shirakawago - 1 day
Shirakawago - takayama - 1 day
takayama - kanazawa - 1 day
kanazawa - Tokyo - 1 day

What JR Pass should I get? Are the itinerary covered by JR pass or I need a combination of JR Pass and Bus Tickets?

Hello there,

The best here would be to use a 7 day JR Pass, as it covers most of your travels and you can make considerable savings compared to purchasing normal tickets.

Though I must say that some parts of your itinerary are not included in the JR Pass. Think of travel to Kawaguchiko and the bus to Shirakawa-go.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Thank you for your reply.
As I will arrive on 30 Apr 16, I am now concerned if I can get a bus ticket to Kawaguichico from Haneda airport.
I am considering to travel straight from Haneda airport to Nagano followed by the rest of the journey. I will then get a separate tour from Tokyo to Kawaguichico since this is not covered by the JR Pass.

May I have your view if travelling from Haneda to Nagano is a good option or would it be better to start my journey from Hadeda to Kyoto and from Kyoto to Kanazawa, Kanazawa to Takayama then Shirakawago and return to Tokyo from Takayama. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

Hi there,

Honestly, I think your itinerary looks much better without Kawaguchiko. It just makes things a lot more relaxed and you don't have to go through all the hassle of getting from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko and then to Nagano. Instead you can just hop on the bullet train from Tokyo to Nagano now. If you really want to add a side stop, consider a visit to Matsumoto.

Both routes work, so pick the one you like best.

Hi,
I just found out there is a new hokuriku pass. May I confirm if this will now include trvel from Tokyo to Nagano? If yes, what is the price for this pass and when can we start purchasing it? Thank you.
