questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

using upon arrival

Using upon arrival

Our stay in Japan is 7days in tokyo and 6days in Osaka via a flight(JAL)vis-a-vis and another day in Tokyo to stay in Narita for our early flight back home. All in all 13 days. Is it advisable to purchase the 14 days pass?

Also, we will be arriving Narita Nov 28, 2016, 8:00PM and may take awhile going through immigration. Will validation office(to exchange it to a Pass) be still open so we can use it at once from Narita to Tokyo?

Hi there,

The JR Pass is best used for longer routes, think of Tokyo - Osaka. However if you do this by flying, then only local travel remains and that does not cost a lot, so a JR Pass would not pay off.

The exchange station at Narita Airport is open until 21:45.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Will it be wise just to utilize the Nex and Suica then?

Also, is the Tokyo - Osaka train ride a shinkansen, and is it two way(back and forth)?

How about instead of the Tokyo- Osaka can it be used to Hakone(mt. Fuji Trip) instead?

Thanks!

If you do make this return, then a JR Pass would be useful. Some goes if you visit Hakone using the JR Pass from Osaka.
